Quick answer

Choose same-day funding when a hard deadline falls today and the loan is either property-secured between $20k and $250k or a smaller unsecured amount with documents ready. Choose 24 to 48 hours when the deadline is tomorrow or later, or the amount is larger, up to $5m with property. If you have a few days, a slightly slower route can widen your options.

Key points

  • Same day: smaller secured or unsecured amounts, everything ready, early start
  • 24–48 hours: larger property-secured loans up to $5m
  • Work backwards from the real deadline, not the panic
  • A day of breathing room can mean a better-suited loan

Why does the speed band matter?

When a business is under pressure, everything feels like it needs to happen today. Sometimes it does. Often it doesn’t. Knowing which speed band you really need does two things: it tells you what to prepare, and it opens up options. A loan that needs to land in the next six hours has a narrower set of routes than one that needs to land by Thursday.

Here are the two bands that matter for fast business finance in Australia:

Band What’s possible Typical structure
Same day $20k–$250k with property; smaller unsecured amounts Caveat, second mortgage, small cash-flow loan
24–48 hours Up to $5m with property; mid-sized unsecured Second or first mortgage, larger unsecured loan

These speeds are possible, not guaranteed. They depend on documents, signatures and business days.

Step one: find the real deadline

Work backwards from the moment the money must actually be somewhere. Not the day you first worried about it, but the hard stop.

  • Settlement: the date and time in the contract
  • Auction: the payment deadline in the terms of sale
  • ATO: the date on the notice, or the date you’ve agreed with the ATO
  • Wages: the time your payroll needs to be processed for staff to be paid on payday
  • Supplier deal: the time the supplier’s offer expires

Then ask: what happens if the money lands one business day later? If the answer is a genuine loss, you’re in same-day territory. If it’s inconvenient but survivable, the 24 to 48-hour band is probably the better fit.

When is same day the right call?

Same day makes sense when all of these line up:

  1. The deadline genuinely falls today
  2. The amount is $20k to $250k with property, or a smaller unsecured amount
  3. Your documents are ready to send now
  4. Every signatory can sign today
  5. It’s a business day and you’re starting early

If any of those is missing, same day becomes a long shot. That isn’t a failure. It’s just the reality of a process that involves several people and the banking system.

Illustrative example: a printer in Perth has a $90,000 ATO garnishee notice and needs to show it’s dealt with. It’s 8am on a Tuesday, she owns her home outright with no mortgage, the ATO statement is downloaded and her husband, the co-owner, is home. Same day is realistic for a caveat loan.

When is 24 to 48 hours the better choice?

When the amount is larger, the ownership is more complex or the deadline is tomorrow or later. Property-secured loans up to $5m are possible within 24 to 48 hours. The extra time allows for a registered mortgage instead of a caveat, more thorough checks on a bigger loan, or getting a payout figure from an existing lender.

Illustrative example: a logistics company in Sydney’s west is buying a competitor’s routes and trucks for $1.6 million, settling on Friday. It’s Tuesday. The owners have a debt-free depot. A first mortgage over the depot can be arranged within 24 to 48 hours, comfortably meeting Friday.

What does a little extra time buy you?

More than you might think:

  • Better structure. A second mortgage rather than a caveat, if the need will last a while.
  • The right amount. Time to work out the real gap rather than guessing high.
  • Fewer mistakes. Less chance of a typo in a payee’s bank details at 4pm.
  • Comparison. Time to read the offer properly and ask questions.

If the deadline allows, give it a day. Speed should serve the business, not the other way round.

What if I don’t have property?

Without property, same day is possible for smaller unsecured amounts when your business trades steadily and statements are ready. Larger unsecured amounts usually take longer, often a few days, because there’s more history to check. If you need a large amount quickly and don’t own property, talk to us anyway: sometimes a family member’s property can help, with their full agreement.

How to set yourself up for either band

The preparation is the same either way, so do it now:

  • Download six months of business bank statements
  • Gather ID for every director and property owner
  • Find your mortgage statement and any ATO statement
  • Write two lines on the purpose and how you’ll repay
  • Line up every signatory

Our document checklist covers it in detail, and the Speed Checker tells you which band you’re likely in.

Same day vs 24–48 hours at a glance

Question Same day 24–48 hours
Deadline Today Tomorrow or later
Amount $20k–$250k secured, or smaller unsecured Up to $5m secured
Documents All ready now Ready within hours
Signatories Available today Available within a day
Start time Early on a business day Any business day

What happens behind the scenes in each band

In a same-day deal, everything happens in sequence within business hours: enquiry, call, documents, assessment, offer, signing and settlement. There’s very little slack, so any pause pushes funding to the next business day. In a 24 to 48-hour deal, the same steps happen with a little more breathing room, which allows for a registered mortgage, a payout from an existing lender or a co-owner who signs the next morning. Neither band skips steps. The difference is how tightly they’re packed.

Signs you’re trying to force same day when you don’t need it

  • The real deadline is two or more business days away
  • The amount is well over $250k and needs a registered mortgage
  • A co-owner can’t sign until tomorrow anyway
  • An existing lender has to provide a payout figure
  • You haven’t yet worked out the exact amount

If any of these apply, aim for 24 to 48 hours and use the extra time to get the structure right.

A quick self-test

Answer yes or no:

  1. Is my deadline today?
  2. Is the amount $20k to $250k with property, or a smaller unsecured sum?
  3. Are all my documents ready to send right now?
  4. Can every signatory sign today?
  5. Is it a business day morning?

Five yeses: same day is realistic. Fewer: plan for 24 to 48 hours, which for property-secured loans covers amounts up to $5m. Either way, the Speed Checker will confirm your band in under a minute.

Find your band, then find your loan

You don’t need to work this out alone. Send a short enquiry and a real person will tell you honestly which band you’re in. There’s no credit check when you first enquire, so it won’t touch your file, and we don’t spray your details across a list of lenders.

Please be accurate on the form, especially the amount, the deadline and any property you own. Accurate answers mean the first match is the right one. See if you qualify.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need same-day funding?

Ask what happens if the money arrives tomorrow morning instead. If the answer is a real loss, such as a missed settlement or a lost auction lot, same day matters. If not, 24 to 48 hours may suit you better.

Is same-day funding available for large amounts?

Same day is possible for property-secured amounts from $20k to $250k and smaller unsecured amounts. Larger amounts up to $5m are possible within 24 to 48 hours.

Does faster funding cost more?

Speed alone doesn't set the price. Every loan is priced on your circumstances: security, amount, term and the business.

What time of day should I enquire for same-day funding?

As early as possible on a business day, with your documents ready.

Can I start with same day and switch to 24–48 hours?

Yes. If something can't be done today, the specialist will tell you and aim for the next business day.
